The Day in the Life Foundation

Welcome to
The Day in the Life Foundation

The Day in the Life Foundation was founded  by Mark J Ferguson to formally organize the Day in the Life SeriesÒ of events for young adults.  Through the work of the Foundation, Mr. Ferguson is introducing high school students from his hometown of Newark, New Jersey to the world of work by creating one day "professional experiences" that expose students to the wide variety of career opportunities available to them.

The Day in the Life SeriesÒ introduces students to senior executives of organizations as diverse as the New Jersey Nets organization of the National Basketball Association to the world’s largest physical commodity futures exchange, the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) in New York City. These executives and their staffs share their varied educational and professional experiences in an effort to inspire, encourage and support the dreams of today’s young people.

Out of the Day in the Life SeriesÒ of experiences, the Foundation encourages organizations to create short-term internships to support ongoing mentorship to deserving students. The exposure, as well as the mentoring relationships that are formed through this work benefits both students and mentors, and can last a lifetime.

The Day in the Life SeriesÒ is supported by New Jersey Nets of the National Basketball Association, Dutch commercial bank, ABN Amro, Inc, the New York Mercantile Exchange, urban retailer, FUBU, Inc, the Newark (NJ) Board of Education, public relations giant, Dan Klores Communications, Black Entertainment Television, Inc as well as management consultant, Strategic Worldwide LLC.  The 2006 Day in the Life SeriesÒ included an event at the undergraduate college of New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business where current Stern undergraduates shared inspiring words with students  from Newark Central High School, Newark Science High School as well Malcom X Shabazz High School.

On the set of 106 & Park at Black Entertainment Television, Inc in New York City,  executives hosted students and allowed them to sit in on a taping of their  award winning show with famed entertainer LL Cool J.  The highlight of the year was a town hall styled gathering on the campus of New Jersey Institute of Technology with actor and author of Letters to a Young Brother  Hill Harper.   Nearly 500 young men of color, 13 to 18 years of age from Newark and beyond participated in an engaging and meaningful discussion on the issues affecting their lives in urban America today.
